Split, merge, and multi-warehouse shipping

On the Genstore platform, you can process orders more flexibly with split shipments, merged shipments, and multi-warehouse shipping. These features help you handle orders efficiently and improve shipping speed.

Split shipments

Split shipments apply when a customer places an order with multiple products but you can’t ship all items at once. If an order contains more than one product, you can split it into multiple packages and ship them separately.

Operation steps

  1. Log in to your Genstore admin and go to Orders -> Shipping.
  2. On the Pending shipments page, find the order you want to split and open its details.
  3. The system will prompt you to select the products you want to ship separately and allow you to set different shipping methods for each package, including manually uploading tracking numbers.
  4. After splitting, each package will have its own tracking information, and you can process shipments individually.

Things to keep in mind

  • Each split package can use a different shipping method, including self-fulfillment.
  • Split packages are treated independently, with separate shipping costs and tracking.

Merged shipments

Merged shipments let you combine multiple orders into one package when the customer information, sales channel, and shipping address are identical.

Operation steps

  1. Log in to your Genstore admin and go to Orders -> Shipping.
  2. If the system detects orders that meet merge criteria, click the Merge orders notification to access the merge interface.
  3. In the merge interface, select the orders you want to merge. The system will automatically check whether the customer information, sales channel, and shipping address match exactly.
  4. After confirming the merge details, click Merge orders. The system will combine them into one shipment.
  5. Once merged, you can process the merged order like a regular order, select a shipping method, and purchase a shipping label.

Things to keep in mind

  • Orders can only be merged if their customer information, sales channel, and shipping address match exactly.
  • After merging, you can assign a single shipping method and carrier for the combined shipment.
  • If you merged orders by mistake, you can unmerge them to restore each order to its original state.

Unmerging orders

If you accidentally merged orders or need to split them back into individual orders, you can unmerge them at any time.

Operation steps

  1. Go to the Pending shipments page and locate the merged order.
  2. Open the merged order details and find the Cancel merge option.
  3. Click Cancel merge, and the system will split the orders back into individual orders.
  4. The unmerged orders will appear again in the Pending shipments list, where you can assign separate shipping methods.

Multi-warehouse shipping

Multi-warehouse shipping is for merchants managing inventory across multiple warehouses. The system automatically splits orders containing products from different warehouses and recommends shipping from the optimal warehouse based on stock and the shipping address.

Operation steps

  1. Log in to your Genstore admin and go to Orders -> Shipping.
  2. On the Pending shipments page, the system will recommend a warehouse for each product based on inventory location.
  3. If products in one order come from multiple warehouses, the system will automatically split the order into separate packages for each warehouse.
  4. You can set the shipping method for each package individually.

Things to keep in mind

  • Make sure inventory data for each warehouse is synced before processing shipments to avoid failures.
  • If multiple warehouses can fulfill the order, the system will recommend a warehouse based on your priority settings, but you can manually change it if needed.
  • Multi-warehouse shipping cannot be used together with merged shipments.

FAQs

Q1. How do I know if orders are eligible for merging?

A: Orders can only be merged if their customer information, sales channel, and shipping address are exactly the same. If any of these details differ, the system will not allow merging.

Q2. Can I split and merge the same order?

A: No. Splitting and merging are separate operations. You can either split an order into multiple shipments or merge multiple orders into one shipment, but not both at the same time.

Q3. Will merging orders affect shipping costs?

A: Yes. Merged orders will have a single package with unified shipping costs. After merging, you need to confirm the shipping method and cost.
