Configure shipping profiles

The shipping profile is one of the key configurations before launching your store. If your store applies the same shipping rules for all products, you only need to set up the General shipping profile. If you need to configure specific shipping rules for certain products, you can create a Custom shipping profile.

Things to consider before configuration

Before configuring your shipping profile, keep the following in mind:

  • Be familiar with the regions your store supports for delivery and set up appropriate shipping cost rules accordingly.
  • The General shipping profile is created by default and cannot be disabled or deleted.
  • The initial shipping rule for the General shipping profile is set to free shipping by default. Be sure to update it based on actual shipping costs before your store launches to avoid losses.
  • A product (including product variants) can only be assigned to one shipping profile. If a product is added to a Custom shipping profile, it will no longer be available in the General shipping profile.
  • If multiple products from different shipping profiles are included in the same order, the system will consolidate the shipping costs, which could result in higher fees at checkout.

Configure shipping profiles

Here’s how to configure the General and Custom shipping profiles. The only difference between the two lies in the Applicable products configuration. Other configuration steps are the same.

  1. In the Genstore admin, go to Settings -> Shipping and delivery -> Shipping and delivery.
  2. Click Edit on the General shipping profile to enter the configuration page.

Configuring applicable products - General shipping

The General shipping profile applies to all products by default, and you don’t need to manually configure the applicable products. You can click View applicable product to see the list of products currently covered by the General shipping profile. Note: Currently, the applicable product configuration is at the SPU level, not the SKU level.

TIP

For products not applicable to the General shipping profile, you can create or associate them with a Custom shipping profile.

Configure applicable products - Custom shipping

When creating or editing a Custom shipping profile, at least one product must be selected.

  1. Click Configure products to select the products for this Custom shipping profile.
  2. Click View selected products to preview the list of products covered by the profile.

Note: A product can only be added to one Custom shipping profile. If it’s already assigned to one, you won’t be able to select it again. If needed, remove it from the profile first.

Configure shipping location

You can configure the shipping locations for the General shipping profile by selecting warehouses or store addresses. Click Manage shipping location to select or unselect the shipping addresses. If the desired location is not on the list, you must first add it in Settings -> Locations.

Note:

  1. The General shipping profile will automatically include the store’s default address as the shipping origin.
  2. If a configured shipping location is disabled in the Locations management, it will no longer be available for product shipping. You’ll see a disabled label next to the address.
  3. If a shipping location is deleted in the Locations management, it will automatically be removed from the shipping profile.

Shipping location priority

You can adjust the priority by dragging the shipping location up or down, with the default priority set to the top.

TIP

The shipping location priority affects how the system determines where the product will ship from. If a product can ship from multiple points, the system will prioritize the highest-ranked point. For more on product shipping routing, refer to Order routing.

Configure shipping regions and rates

In the General shipping profile, you can configure one or more shipping regions along with their corresponding shipping rates. A shipping region typically includes countries or regions with the same shipping rate. For example, if your warehouse in France ships at the same rate to all European countries, you can group all European countries under one shipping region and charge the same rate to all customers in Europe.

Add shipping regions and rates

To add a new shipping region and rate, click Add regions and rates or click Edit to modify existing regions and rates.

  1. Region: Enter a name for the region to differentiate it from others in the profile.

  2. Shipping areas: Select at least one country or region. You can select multiple regions by checking the boxes.

    TIP

    a. The General shipping profile will automatically set the store’s primary market country as the default shipping region.

    b. If the country you need is not listed, you can add it in Settings -> Markets.

    c. Each shipping profile allows only one set of shipping rules per country (including states/provinces).

  3. Shipping rates: You can configure one or more shipping rates for the region.

    a. Name: Name the rate. This name will be displayed to customers at checkout.

    WARNING

If the order contains products from different shipping profiles, the shipping rates with the same name will be added together. For more on rate merging, see Rate consolidation.

    b. Rate calculation: Genstore offers five different rate calculation options. Select the one that fits your needs. The default rate currency is set to the store’s primary currency.

    • Free shipping: No charge to the customer. The shipping cost will show as $0 at checkout.
    • Flat rate: Charge a specific amount for shipping, such as $10 per order. Note: The number of items does not affect the fixed shipping amount.
    • Rate by price: Calculate shipping based on the total order value (excluding discounts, taxes, and fees).
    • Rate by weight: Calculate shipping based on the total weight of the items in the order. If an item does not have a weight attribute, it defaults to 0.
    • Rate by quantity: Calculate shipping based on the number of items in the order.

    c. Additional notes: You can enable Shipping notes to provide additional information about the shipping option. For example, if you offer two fixed shipping rates of $12 and $24, you can add a note for the $12 rate like Standard shipping: 6-10 days delivery and for the $24 rate, Expedited shipping: 3-5 days delivery.

Disable or delete regions and rates

To temporarily disable or permanently delete a shipping region and rate, use the toggle to disable or click Delete to remove it entirely.

Note: Disabling or deleting a region and its rates may prevent customers in that region from placing orders.

Configure pickup location

You can configure pickup location in the shipping profile. Once enabled, customers can choose a pickup option at checkout, and the order will not require a shipping fee.

Add pickup locations

  1. Click Add pickup location and choose a warehouse or store address that can handle customer pickups.

    TIP

If the desired location is not available, you must first add it in Settings -> Locations.

  2. Provide a name for the pickup location, which will appear to customers when they choose the pickup option at checkout.

  3. Add a description for the pickup location, such as when the order will be ready for pickup and the business hours of the location.

Note:

  • If a pickup location is disabled in the Locations management, it will no longer be available for customer pickups. The status will show as disabled.
  • If a pickup location is deleted in the Locations management, it will automatically be removed from the shipping profile.
