Search & Discovery app

Use the Search & Discovery app to customize how search and filter options appear on your Genstore storefront. This helps customers quickly find what they need and improves their overall shopping experience.

TIP

This feature requires the Search & Discovery app. Make sure the app is installed and configured before enabling it in your store theme.

Key features

  • Search results – Control what content types show in search results.
  • Search suggestions – Show autocomplete suggestions and trending keywords as customers type.
  • Product filters – Add filters like brand, price, color, and size to help customers narrow down results on search and collection pages.

Step 1: Install the app

  1. Go to the Genstore App Store and sign in to your account.
  2. If you manage multiple stores, select the one you want to install the app on.
  3. Search for Search & Discovery.
  4. Click Install on the app page.
  5. You’ll be redirected to the admin panel to complete the setup.
  6. (Optional) Pin the app to the left navigation for quick access later.

Step 2: Enable search suggestions in your theme

To show real-time suggestions in the search box, enable them in your theme settings:

  1. From your Genstore admin, go to Online Store -> Themes, and click Design next to your live theme.
  2. In the sidebar, click the Settings icon - Theme design.
  3. Under Search behavior, toggle on Search suggestions.
  4. Click Save in the top right.

Configure search settings

The app includes two search-related settings:

  • Search results – Define what types of content are returned after a customer submits a search.
  • Search suggestions – Choose which types of content are suggested while typing.

To set up:

  1. Go to Apps -> Search & Discovery, then open the app.
  2. Select the Search tab.
  3. Under Search result settings, select what you want to include in search results:
    • Products
    • Product collections
    • Blog posts
    • Pages
  4. Under Search suggestion settings, choose what to include in live suggestions.

TIP

Make sure search suggestions are turned on in your theme. Otherwise, they won't appear.

Configure product filters

Use filters to help customers narrow down product results when they’re unsure what to buy.

When to use filters

  • Your catalog contains many products or variants
  • Customers may want to filter by attributes like brand, price, size, or color
  • You sell in complex categories such as apparel, electronics, or furniture

To set up:

  1. Open Search & Discovery from your Apps menu.
  2. Select the Filters tab and click Add filter.
  3. Define your filter:
    • Select a filter type (e.g., Brand, Color)
    • Enter the name and translations
    • Choose a display format (checkbox, radio, box)
    • Add filter values (e.g., Red, Blue, White)
  4. Click Save.

Managing filters

  • Reorder filters: Drag and drop to change display order on the storefront.
  • Edit filters: Use the edit icon to update filter content.
  • Delete filters: Remove unwanted filters. They will no longer appear on the storefront.

Storefront experience

Once filters and suggestions are enabled:

Customers will see:

  • Configured filters on the search results and collection pages
  • Relevant search suggestions and results as they type
