Manage app permissions and privacy
The permission system controls what store data apps can access and modify. To protect your store and customer privacy, Genstore ensures transparent permission controls when handling Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
TIP
Personally Identifiable Information (PII) refers to information that can uniquely identify an individual, such as contact details and location data.
Apps installed from the Genstore app store may access your store, customer, and order data. Depending on the app’s features, they may access different types of PII.
What personal information can apps access?
Each app installed on your Genstore account can access personal information associated with your account, such as contact details and address. Here are the types of PII an app may access:
- Customer personal information: Includes name, email, phone number, address, and location data (e.g., IP address, geographic location), as well as user agent information (e.g., browser and operating system).
- Store owner personal information: Includes all contact details for the store owner, such as name, email, phone number, and address.
- Employee personal information: Includes all contact details for employees, such as name, email, and phone number.
- Content provider personal information: Includes information about blog authors or reviewers, such as email, IP address, and user agent data (e.g., browser and operating system).
For example, apps that manage or ship orders will need access to customer PII, such as addresses and other contact information. When you install such an app, the following permissions may be requested:
- Access recent order data: The app can only view orders from the past 60 days.
- Access all order data: The app can view all historical and future orders.
Genstore reviews apps that request full order data access to ensure they truly need it to operate.
If you’d like to know more about how an app accesses, uses, or deletes data, please contact the app developer or check the app’s privacy policy link in the description.
View app privacy and permissions
When you install an app, you can see what permissions the app requests and the types of PII it needs to access. After installation, you can review the app’s privacy and permissions anytime from your Genstore merchant dashboard.
- During installation: Before confirming installation, the system shows the permissions and types of PII the app needs, allowing you to review and grant them if you choose.
- After installation: To view the privacy and permissions of an installed app, follow these steps:
- Log in to your Genstore admin dashboard and go to the Apps page.
- In the app list, find the app you want to check, click ... -> View details.
- Under Privacy details, see what PII the app accesses.
- Under Permission details, see what actions the app is allowed to perform.
Revoke app data access
You can revoke an app’s data access by uninstalling it. Genstore will request the app developer delete any customer PII collected by the app within 48 hours.
If you want to delete data for a specific customer, Genstore will send a delete request to all apps that may have accessed that customer’s information. To confirm whether the data has been deleted, contact the app developer directly.
