Set point expiration rules

In the Points expiration section of the loyalty program, adjust the following options to encourage timely point usage:

  • Point expiration toggle:

This function is off by default. When enabled, it causes points to expire automatically after the designated period.

  • Point validity period: Points typically last 12 months, but you can customize this duration from 1 to 60 months based on your operational needs.

Make sure to click Save after making changes.

Example of point expiration

Consider a customer who earns 300 points on January 1, 2025. The points begin to expire from March 1, 2025, with a one-year validity period:

  • If no points are redeemed, all 300 points will expire by March 1, 2026.
  • If 200 points are redeemed on May 1, any remaining points (100) will expire on the same date, March 1, 2026.

Handle expirations

Once the point expiration is activated:

  • Points Expiration: The system checks daily for expired points and resets them to zero.
  • Email notification: Customers receive timely reminders to redeem points before they expire, enhancing customer engagement and satisfaction. Note: The system sends a warning email 30 days before the points expire and a final reminder 7 days prior if the points remain unused.

FAQ

Q1: How is the validity period of customer points calculated?

A: After activation, the expiration timer starts, and points will expire at the end of the set period. Daily checks reset expired points and notify customers nearing point expiration.

Q2: What happens if I turn off the point expiration feature?

A: Turning off the feature stops the calculation of point expiration, and all points previously issued remain valid indefinitely.
